Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army 2024Corning Rotary joined other service clubs and individuals in supporting the Corning Salvation Army's annual bell ringing kettle event this year. The festive bells and colors in Centerway Square in Corning help remind people of the Salvation Army's presence here -- and all that they do with food pantries, clothing, Christmas wishes/needs for children, their ministry and weekly cost-free dinners at their Shepherd's Tables. The contributions to the kettles help Salvation Army with it's mission: "Help Us Do the Most Good". Corning Rotarians that were there to help with the bell ringing include: Wendy Winnett, Ernie Danforth, Bill Boland, Jen Batzing, Stu Sammis and Andy Rochester. If you missed out on the kettle drive, you can donate directly to Salvation Army here. Thank you! |

Rotary at Sparkle 2024Sparkle Saturday, Dec 7th -- afternoon and evening. Quite a bit colder than last year -- and we had light snow, to make it more festive! Our stalwart team assembled our booth and prepared for the cold as the sun was setting. This year we had candy canes and tootsie rolls. Giving out hot drinks is tricky, but we've got a plan for Sparkle '25 âïž. The cold didn't reduce the number of Sparkle revelers. We had lots of visitors. We had the chance to speak with people from our community and talk about Rotary. We were at Sparkle as part of our connection to this community. And - there were lots of questions! Who can join? What activities do you in the community? What is Rotary International? Don't you work on killing the Polio virus? Can I have another candy cane? [just kidding]. |

Corning Rotary at The Chamber Business After Hours - Non/Profits GatheringOn Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Corning Rotary participated in the Corning Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours for Non-Profit Organizations. The event took place at the Radisson, where we joined other agencies in the main ballroom to showcase our work. It was a wonderful opportunity to share our focus areas and projects with others while also learning more about the great work being done by fellow organizations. We especially enjoyed finding ways we might work together in the future, making it both a successful and fun evening for everyone involved. |

Salvation Army Shepherd's Table 11/17/24Corning Salvation Army's Shepherd's Table is an opportunity for local organizations, Churches, Service Organizations to help support the Salvation Army. Our turn to provide the Sunday afternoon dinner was last weekend. Karen and I cooked up the casserole Sunday morning and then our Rotary Team assembled in the afternoon to put together and serve dinners. All together, with assistance of a Salvation Army volunteer, we served over 40 meals. Food security is one of the key roles of our Corning Rotary Club in our community. We work with and in pantries, provide community gardens and are now finishing a greenhouse that will support the Corning pantry. Thanks to all that made this possible: Ernie, Mani, Karen, Stacy, Dale, Wendy and Jan!!

Past Pres Stu Sammis filled us in on the upcoming fundraiser, Oktoberfest, to be held Saturday, October 12, in the Civic Center Ice Rink. Volunteer sign-up sheets are HERE. Tickets are HERE. This will be an "all hands-on deck" opportunity with lots of volunteer slots to be filled. We need lots of volunteers so bring friends and family to help! Oktoberfest is planned to be the second yearly major fundraiser for the club to provide the funds we want to run our programs in the community, provide scholarships and the funds for various nonprofits that Rotary supports. Past President Stu also said the base for the Greenhouse Project at Corning Community Food Pantry is completed. Volunteers will be needed to build the planting beds for the greenhouse. Keep your eyes peeled on ClubRunner and your email for more information to come. Ernie also mentioned the need for volunteers for the information booth at Watkins Glen races this coming weekend. Sign-ups are on Clubrunner HERE. Cory Walker asked for people to help him with the Greeter and 50/50 sales. Please contact him at cory.walker@corningfcu.org. Prez Ernie has not received any more Biographies for the biography challenge. C'mon people, tell us about yourselves! At the September 19th meeting, we will review the survey results and hear your input into it. If you cannot make the lunch meeting, we will hold an evening zoom meeting on September 23rd at 6:00 PM. Please note that the October 3rd meeting will be held at Carey's on Bridge Street! Program: Update on what's new at CareFirst by Cindy Lewis-Black and Tali Nyberf-Sutton. 50/50 was won by Jan Harvey, who with her usual luck, did not pull the winning card. Swimming for a Cause - Supporting People's Hospice NeedsLast Saturday, Jen Batzing and I, along with 200+ other swimmers gathered at Keuka College to raise money for the Keuka Comfort Home - a local hospice that supports people at the end of their lives ... The event is called Krossin' Keuka and the organization is amazing! We're organized into pods of ~8 swimmers and dropped off at the far side of the lake -- across from Keuka Collage. Then, we swim back - aiming for the chapel, with the morning sunrise glow illuminating it. There are giant orange floating balls that show us the way, and dozens of kayakers (and even a dive team) to keep us safe. If a swimmer tires, the kayakers provide immediate assistance. Every few minutes, another pod of swimmers is dropped off and starts its swim across. Meanwhile the music is playing on the point, spectators are cheering and there's lots of carbs and fruit for the swimmers. And, in just a couple of hours -- it is over; but we're already marking our calendars for 2025!! Fundraisers such as this [and the run for Bampa's House in Corning] are key to helping provide this valuable service and help ensure that people without funds can have this assistance. So -- with the support that many of you in Corning Rotary [and our other friends and family] provided, Jen and I helped contribute to the $121,412.06 that was raised. Thank you!! ================= Here are additional thank-you's from the Krossin' Keuka Organization: We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Yates County Sheriffâs Department Marine Patrol for their essential support and to all the incredible businesses that backed Krossinâ Keuka 2024. A round of applause for Morgan Marina, Single Enterprises, Riley Earl Films, Tops, Rob Kinyoun, Grapevine Country Tours, Seneca Falls Health Center, and our fantastic DJ Nate Baker from FLX Entertainment. Your contributions helped turn this event into a phenomenal success. The magic of Krossinâ Keuka is built on a blend of hard work, dedication, and boundless community spirit. We canât wait to see you all next year for even more fun and fundraising on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Until then, thank you for making this year unforgettable! |

STEM Kits for the Science and Discovery CenterWhat's more fun that putting together a kit of instructions, reading material and parts to assemble - that involves wings, wheels and more? Well - putting together 200 kits for the Science and Discovery Center of Corning. Under the leadership of the Center's staff, we assembled the STEM kits so that they are all ready to be used by the students. Thank you to all that came. It was fun assembling the kits and ... somewhat tempting to assemble the racer or flyer parts -- just to test them đ. |

Rotary Cherry Blossom TrailThe trees of the Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail in Denison Park are in full bloom, and they are a sight to behold. In their 3rd season, it is clear to see the development of their beauty. The trail was Corning Rotary's contribution to the community on the occasion of the club's 100th anniversary. If the past is a good prognosticator, the blossoms will last about two weeks. Please share this news with family, friends, co-workers and mild acquaintances. The trailhead is located on Market Street Extension. Coming out of town toward Gibson on Denison Parkway, at the last light, turn left onto Conhocton Street, then take the first right onto Market Street Extension. You'll see the big "Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail" sign on the right. Easy parking on the street. Enjoy. Tell others. Bill From the editor: Location. MLK Day of Service at the Food BankJanuary 15, 2024 was a busy day at the Food Bank in Elmira. There were over 200 volunteers there to learn more about Dr. King Jr. as well as provide service to the Food Bank. Corning Rotary was there with two teams: one for the morning and another for the afternoon shift. Our morning team of 10, and the other morning volunteers had the APPLE ASSIGNMENT. Basically we took buckets of apples from large floor containers, checked them -- then packed in bags. Then those bags went into crates, which went off on the conveyor belt to another area. Everyone pitched in -- ferrying the apples to the weighing/bagging stations -- ensuring that the bags had the proper contents weight! And then .... we'd gone through all the apples; the task went quickly. There was great camaraderie by the volunteers, getting apples to other teams and tossing apples to and fro to "balance out the scales". Thank you to the Food Bank for having us there and to all the volunteers! In the afternoon, another Corning Rotary group, Elise Johnson-Schmidt and her team packed more food for the food bank! Service Above Self! [more photos; thank you, Gil and Wendy!]

Bell Ringing for the Salvation ArmyCorning Rotary joined other service clubs and individuals in supporting the Corning Salvation Army's annual bell ringing kettle event this November/December. Corning Rotarians that were there to help with the bell ringing include: Les Rosenbloom, Wendy Winnett, Ernie Danforth, Susan Boland, Bill Boland, and Andy Rochester. If you missed out on the kettle drive, you can donate directly to Salvation Army here. Thank you! And this just in.... Corning Salvation Army just completed their Christmas Tags program. Andy collected some of the Salvation Army tags and took them to the Corning Guthrie Healthworks. The HealthWorks staff placed the tags on their Christmas tree and helped the members and staff contribute gifts for the Salvation Army program. Thank you all!!

Personal Care Bags for Dayspring ResidentsOn December 12th Rotarians got together to make up gift bags of toiletries for residents of Dayspring Apartments. This project was in response to an appeal from the Corning Food Pantry for help. The Rotary Club purchased supplies including toothbrushes, tooth paste, shampoo, soap, chap sticks, a scrubbie and a bag of Skinny Pop Popcorn. This project was organized by Stu Sammis. Stu Sammis and Jan Harvey did the actual shopping. They were joined by Ernie Danforth, Dale Wexell and Andy Rochester as well as two other people to put the bags together. A total of 72 bags were made up, then were then delivered to Corning Food Pantry to be included in their special distribution for the residents. Corning Rotary continues its commitment to Service Above Self - for our community. |

Sparkle Follow-upSparkle Saturday, Dec 2nd -- afternoon and evening. Nice mild weather for the event. We were strategically near a source of electricity and bathrooms, and thanks to Dale, had many boxes of cookies and cider. We had -- LOTS and LOTS of cider and cookies..... The question was - how fast can we put nice warm cider into cups and give it to the many Sparkle revelers. Not fast enough. But while we were handing out cookies, it was a wonderful chance to speak with people from our community and talk about Rotary. We were at Sparkle as part of our connection to this community. And - there were lots of questions! Who can join? What activities do you in the community? What is Rotary International? Don't you work on killing the Polio virus? Can I have another cookie? [just kidding].

It went with us to a number of meetings and outdoor events. Rotary at Sparkle is coming soon and we'd love to have that sign there! So -- here's the proposition: we need to find the sign or purchase a replacement..... It might be in a member's home/ garage etc. The PRIZE? Free Rotary lunch [per Dale] if you find the flag sign and let Andy know. He'll come and collect it.

Holidays Help OpportunitiesDear Club Members: please consider donating time to this project. Corning Rotary and GafferDistrict are partnering to help each other. This gives us the opportunity to pitch in -- and also allows us to have a presence at these events let the community know more about the work we do in the community! ========== Hello Dear Volunteer, It's that time of year again, and we at the Gaffer District are working on putting together our Crystal City Christmas events for 2023! Like always, we couldn't do it all without our volunteers! These beloved events need your help and help from any friends, co-workers, or family who are able and willing to volunteer. If you can't physically help but would like to ask others, that too is appreciated. Below is a list of days and time slots we still need help with. The biggest need right now is crowd control during the Parade of Lights, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Please reply back to me at ginny@gafferdistrict.com if you are able to work a shift. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for your consideration! We truly appreciate everything you do to keep our beautiful community a wonderful place to live, work and do business-- especially during the holidays! |

Rotary Fact SheetCorning NY Rotary - Rotary International FACT SHEET Rotary unites people from all continents and cultures who take action to deliver real, long-term solutions to our worldâs most persistent issues. In communities across the globe, our 1.4 million members come together to strengthen their connections to friends and neighbors and their commitment to improving lives. While our 46,000 clubs all share a commitment to community service, the experience, focus and dynamics of each club is unique. Becoming a Rotary member connects you with a diverse group of professionals who share your drive to give back. Causes: Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. Each year, Rotary members invest hundreds of millions of dollars and countless volunteer hours in sustainable, community-based solutions to promote health, peace, and prosperity in communities across the globe. Rotary combines global reach, local resources, and highly skilled volunteers with a funding structure that distributes US$200 million annually to provide clean water and sanitation, support education, prevent and treat disease, save mothers and children, grow local economies, promote peace, and protect the environment. For more than 30 years, Rotary has been the driving force in the effort to end polio worldwide. Alongside our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we have achieved a 99.9 percent reduction in polio cases, with six cases of wild polio reported in 2021 compared with 350,000 a year in the late 1980s. Our members have contributed more than $2.6 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect more than 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Today, just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus, Afghanistan and Pakistan. History: For 118 years, Rotary members have been addressing challenges around the world. It started with the vision of one man â Paul Harris. The Chicago (United States) attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on Feb. 23, 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities. Rotaryâs name came from the groupâs early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of its members. For more information, visit www.rotary.org |

Rotary Collaboration helps Ugandan women out of extreme povertyFrom Rotary International ===================== By Jennifer Montgomery, Rotary Peace Fellow and Co-Founder, President and CEO of Magenta Girls Initiative. Someone wise once said that discomfort is the price of admission for a meaningful life. My experience as a Rotary Peace Fellow has taught me that stepping out of your comfort zone is the only way to live your dream. When youâre gifted this opportunity to be a peace fellow, you have a responsibility to carry the work forward. âCarrying it forwardâ motivated me to form Magenta Girls Initiative, an international non-governmental organization equipping Ugandan girls and young women with the support and tools needed to overcome harmful gender norms, generational poverty, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), trafficking, and trauma. For me, itâs also personal. As a survivor of sexual violence, Iâm deeply committed to helping others find peace and transformation. I formed Magenta Girls with Gorett Komurembe, a peace fellow from Uganda, and two Ugandan Rotarian women who are experts on gender and education. Gorett and I have more than 25 years combined experience creating and implementing effective interventions for vulnerable girls and women around the globe. In May, I decided to dedicate myself full time to expanding our new organization. I want to create evidence-based programs that can be implemented in other vulnerable communities in Africa. Camp Star - You Can Help! Camp STAR [video here] is a week-long camp for children, ages 6 through 12, with a physical or developmental disability that might keep them from enjoying a typical camping experience. Nestled into the peaceful, rural setting that is at The Y at Watson, it is our goal to provide a safe and supervised way for your child to enjoy camping and swimming. We look forward to "going camping" with your child and as you peruse this web site perhaps you might think of ways you help us with the Camp STAR program. The camp is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs from the Southern Tier of New York State including the Bath, Canisteo, Corning, Chemung Sunrise, Elmira, Elmira Heights, Horseheads, Prattsburgh and Watkins-Montour Rotary Clubs. Here's a presentation about how our local Rotary Clubs participate in funding and how you can help: video. Our club needs to provide support to Camp Star immediately. We have been listing the opportunity for the golf tournament [major fundraiser], but need people to register ASAP. Another way to donate is to donate items that they can use as prizes. Contact Marianne to arrange. Finally, you can donate money directly to the Camp - click here. It's important that we step up for this. The club assessments can't cover the cost of the camp - so Camp Star needs to have these fund raising events be successful, so that the camp can support these wonderful kids. Andy PS But Wait!! There's another way you can help. Please sign up to spend a couple of hours at the Camp for a party we provide. Here's the signup.

President Stu Sammis crowed about the wonderful activities accomplished by individuals and members of this club. The full list is shown below. An experience of a lifetime was how Stu described his year. A standing ovation from the audience saluted St as he took his last bow by passing a president's pin over to Dale Wexell. Over the years Corning Rotary has worked in many community service areas and donated or contributed to building creation/ renovation such as: Corning Clocktower, the Centerway Stage, Spencer Crest, a Rockwell Museum Gallery, the Denison Park Gazebo and more ... But the club is more than a lunch group that builds structures. It's main direction is community service and collaboration -- and through the planning and execution of that work, we also gain the bonds that form between the members as we work together! The Corning Rotary club has identified several focus areas that reflect its members' interests and the needs of the community. These areas include environment, health and safety, hunger, literacy, international, and youth. For example, the club has organized events and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability, such as tree-planting, community and school gardens and cleanup programs. In the area of health and safety, the Corning Rotary club has supported initiatives focused on improving access to healthcare and promoting disease prevention by supporting PolioPlus and most recently, a program for free smoke detectors for residents. The club has also worked to combat hunger and food insecurity in the community by donations of items and volunteers to work at local food banks and pantries. In the area of literacy, the Corning Rotary club has supported ongoing reading programs in several of our schools and initiatives aimed at promoting education and literacy among young people. The club has also been involved in international projects, including supporting efforts to provide clean water and sanitation in developing countries. Finally, the Corning Rotary club has a strong focus on youth programs. They provide opportunities for young people in the community to develop leadership skills through leadership programs and oratory competitions and engage in community service through programs such as Interact and Youth Exchange. Overall, the Corning Rotary club seeks to work collaboratively with members and other service organizations to support the community, and its members are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Members of the community are welcome to participate in many of our service projects - most are just a couple of hours, working together. Signups are shown in our EVENTS area on the left side of our home page. This is a great opportunity [whether coming to a meeting or working with us] to learn more about Rotary in our community. |

âïž Bring in those old Bicycles ASAP đČCorning Rotary is collecting used bicycles May 1-4 with the aim of helping refurbishing them and distributing them to people in need by assisting the Pittsford Rotary Club with their project. This initiative is a reflection of the Rotary's commitment to community service and improving the lives of people in the community. Rotary recognizes that bicycles are not only a means of transportation but also a source of joy and independence. However, not everyone can afford to purchase a bike, and that's where this project comes in. The bikes collected by Corning Rotary and other Rotary Clubs will be refurbished by the Pittsford Rotary members and volunteers, ensuring that they are safe and in good working condition. Once the bikes are refurbished, they will be donated to those in need. The project's focus is on helping children and adults who may not have access to bicycles, which can be an important part of their physical and mental development, and in some cases, transportation. By collecting used bicycles, the Rotary is also promoting sustainable living and reducing waste. Instead of letting the bikes end up in landfills, the Rotary is giving them a new life and a new purpose. Additionally, the project creates opportunities for community members to get involved and contribute to a worthy cause. If you have a used bicycle that you no longer need, consider donating it to the Corning Rotary. Email CorningNYRotary@gmail.com and we'll arrange the donation: May 1-4, 2023. Thank you!! đČ |

Community Effort at the Danforth Community GardenOn April 22, 2023, a community effort took place at the Kate Danforth Community Garden in Corning, New York, in celebration of Earth Day. Members of the Corning Rotary Club, the First Presbyterian Church of Corning, the Corning Incorporated Sustainability Network, and other community members joined forces to replace worn-out garden beds. After five to seven years, many of the original beds had outlived their usefulness. They were built of untreated commercial pine boards (1.5â X 5.5â X 8â), and it was time for an upgrade. The community members replaced them with 2âx10âx,8â hemlock obtained from a local Amish sawmill. These new beds are expected to last for 10 to 15 years. The weather cooperated on the day of the project, and everything was completed before the thunderstorms rolled in. The project was a great example of how Rotary is working within the community by collaborating with other organizations to get things done. Most of the volunteers were in their late 20s to early 40s, and they got to see what we can do in the community and how Rotary can fit into their way of doing public service. Community efforts like this one are also essential in promoting environmental sustainability. Thank you again to all the volunteers! |

Thatâs 1 person in every 10. Today, on World Water Day, we want to raise awareness about that and raise funds for projects to change it.
You can help The Rotary Foundation support member-led projects and activities that give people access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education and promote healthy societies. What impact can your gift have? Donors like you have supported these sustainable, life-changing projects around the world:

Regional Spelling Event 2023Another wonderful gathering! The event was held at the CPP Middle School on Saturday 3-11-23 as the snowstorm was tapering off. The snow did affect the travel of some of our spellers ... but we had 71 spellers from 39 schools at the bee. Fifty-one of the students were first timers at attending a spelling bee. The spelling bee was started in 2003, and has been sponsored by Corning Rotary Club from 2014 to present. Dale Wexell and Ernie Danforth did a great job of organizing the event. Our Corning Rotary members filled over 35 volunteer jobs in the day's activities: from setting up the school to serving food/drink to assisting the students, ushering them through the event as it progressed. We'll have more details later, but this was a very successful event with great cooperation and assistance from all the volunteers, staff of the Middle School and the participating students/schools. Pictures here; thank you, Jim Webb! |

The Oratorical Speech Contest was based on the Rotary Four-Way Test. Contestants presented a five to seven minute speech on how they plan to live their lives based on the four-way test. The Oratorical Contest helps build public speaking skills and confidence. Lou was coached by retired communications teacher Judy Cross. For practice, Lou presented his speech at a lunch meeting of the Corning Club. Club members were impressed by his speech, being reminded of how the Four-Way Test influences the lives of Rotarians. Lou has also participated in last yearâs RYLA experience. Louis (4th from left) with other participants and officials at the Finals of the Contest. |

2023-3-2 Corning Rotary Awards Honorary Paul HarrisCorning Rotary Awards Honorary Paul Harris Fellow For Extraordinary Community Service to Nancy Doutt The Corning Rotary Club awarded a Paul Harris Fellow to community member Nancy Doutt at a recent club meeting. The award was presented to Nancy by Rotarian Pauline Emery. Nancy was honored for her community service work stretching more than 40 years. Her efforts target a variety of community needs and issues. Her efforts to promote literacy and education, target food insecurity, the arts and senior needs personify the issues about which she is eternally passionate. A member of the Friends of the Library since 1982, Nancy Doutt has served as board member, vice president and president. She coordinated the twice yearly book sale for the library for many years and continues to this day. Support from the Friends of the Library book sale allows the library to provide quality programming for adults, teens and children and much more. These programs serve thousands of community members each year. The Friends Book Sale has provided well over $1,000,000 since the libraryâs reopening in 2000. Nancy has volunteered at the library since it reopened as the Southeast Steuben County Library in 2000. Nancy is in the library every week doing work to preserve local history. Nancy has been a stalwart volunteer for over 40 years with Hospice of the Southern Tier (now Care First), Corning Meals on Wheels and the Rockwell Museum of Western Art. In 2007, Nancy received the Jefferson Award for Public Service. Of the five award recipients, she was selected to represent the Southern Tier of NY at the National Jefferson Awards in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to Nancy with our sincere appreciation for her commitment to volunteering, exemplifying service above self within our community. |

Return Of the Pancake Supper! What better day to celebrate the return of our annual Groundhog Day Pancake Supper than actually on Groundhog Day? Thursday, February 2nd, saw the return of our annual Groundhog Day Pancake Supper to raise funds for our local grant efforts. Like in the "old days," the supper was held at the American Legion in South Corning. With Buddy Cutler once again at the reins, Rotarians pitched in to make this supper a big success. Even District Governor Ralph Brandt came to help! Diners were entertained by the Rotary Band while Interact students helped serve and clean-up. Faces in the crowd included Dick and Jackie Pope, Paul Tick, Francis Lalomia and family among many, many others. Check out the photos to see who did the cooking! |

Ted read through a litany of reasons why Stacy deserves to be the latest Paul Harris Fellow of the Corning, New York Rotary Club. A surprise attendee was Stacyâs brother, who joined via Zoom to congratulate his sister. From all of us, congratulations, Stacy. Well deserved. The meeting then took a break for lunch. |

Wineglass Marathon 2022 - Rotary helps point the wayThis year - perfect weather for the Wineglass Marathon and some crisp cold mornings to be in the storage shed and out placing flags. Several local organizations placed course markers, including Corning Rotary. Stu, Tom and Andy met on Friday to sort out the materials and get them packed into containers for the three placement teams. Then, Sunday morning at zero dark thirty, the Teams gathered up the materials and went on the search to place the signs, cones, directional tape. The fun part is finding the locations in the dark. This year we used updated placement maps and an app called what3words to help find the elusive locations. Long time Team members also helped us [newcomers] learn the nuances of placement. By 0720, all was well... Bring on the runners. After the race, the cleanup crew gathered up all the materials and took them back to storage - ready for 2023! Thanks to all the Corning Rotarians that made this happen: Rick Davis, Stu Sammis, Jan Harvey, John Brown, Jim Webb, Wendy & Pete Winnett, Ernie Danforth, Darin Strong, and Tom O'Brien. |

The Club met at McKinney Park the evening of June 23rd to celebrate another successful year and to give President Jeff Ugoretz an appreciative send-off. However, President Jeff was not able to be present since he had tested positive for covid three days before. It was noted that another of our stalwart corps, Andy Rochester, was absent for the same reason. Everyone sent their get well wishes to the missing troopers. Well over 40 people attended the picnic with food provided by Bill Spaulding of Corning Catering. A great buffet of barbeque pulled pork, shredded chicken and sausage and peppers along with tasty sides was served. It was good to see so many members and their families in attendance including Dick and Jackie Pope, Nora Smith, Pete Winnett, Jenniffer Mullen and Kelly Copp and family. It's been a long time since they all were able to attend a meeting. It was fun to catch up! |

Thanks for the dues reminder, and it was good to hear from you. I did not receive a copy of Stuâs letter, so if you could forward another copy, I would appreciate that. Please change my email to Mike5809@outlook.com; My Gmail address has become swamped by hundreds of junk purveyors. Merle and I are comfortably settled into the warm South (It is in the 90âs today), well looked after by our Daughter and Son-in-law whose professional lives both include HVAC. Merle is being helped 20 hours a day by a small team of caregivers and is doing as well as can be expected. She is confined to bed or a wheelchair. I still have some hope that I can join one of the local Rotary Clubs, but transportation is becoming a bit of an issue. I still read the Cogs and the District Newsletters when I find them buried in my inbox. Please pass my best wishes on to the Club. Mike

In short, you'll need to preorder your lunch a week before so that your food items can be prepared for you the day of the meeting. We understand that this is a change in process -- but let's give it a try! The eCommerce site is up and ready to take your order, including payment; just click THIS LINK and select your beverage and sandwich / salad choice [including dressing and meat/no meat for the salad choice. The checkout process is very similar to Amazon or any other online vendor. When you get to the payment, if you have PayPal you can use that or click the Credit Card choice. We've used this format successfully for years for the International Dinners and for donations. If you have questions, please email Andy. NOTE: If you are in contact with a Rotarian that is not using email/online ordering and will be coming to the in-person meetings, please email Andy with the details and we'll have an EASY work-around for them. Thank you for your patience during the transition. Jan and Andy
