Corning Rotary President Jennifer Batzing welcomed Svetlana Short into our club at our December Jingle Mingle Celebration. Sponsored by Rotarian Gil Sweet, Svetlana has already been a contributor to Rotary's work in the community and we're happy to have her join Rotary.
Svetlana came to this country as a Jewish refugee from the Soviet Union and is now a long-time resident of Corning. Her parents are holocaust survivors. “I understand suffering, redemption, hope, and the need to bring kindness and understanding to the world around us,” said Svetlana.
She is a member of the local library board and of the Jewish Center & Federation of the Twin Tiers Board. She is an exhibiting artist, a wife, a mother of three children, an experienced engineer, and an intellectual property counsel for Corning Incorporated.
