Corning Rotary Club leads the establishment of the First Responders Honor Park in the Town of Erwin.

 

The Friday September 11, 2015 event was highlighted by honor guards from Steuben County Sheriff’s office, the New York State Police and emergency management directors from Steuben, Chemung and Schuyler counties, who raised the majestic flags that will fly over the park. 

 

The day’s ceremony also included the special recognition of the first, The First Responder of the Year, Ret. Station Commander Mike Case, of the NY State Police.

Corning Rotarians , Don Creath, Ernie Danforth, John Carpenter, Kelly Copp, Elaine Farwell, Dick Pope, D. Michael Platt and Anton Spycher were instrumental in leading this successful and enduring project from inception.

The park is located at the corner of Forest Drive and South Hamilton Street (Route 417), Gang Mills.  It features 4 honor beds with inscribed pavers, honoring firefighters, police and medical and rescue personnel from the Chemung, Steuben and Schuyler counties.

The residual funds received from the pavers will be used for a perpetual maintenance endowment for the park.

 

Not coincidentally, the Honor Park was dedicated on Patriot Day, and will be used for annual observances of the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks.  Let us never forget…
