Several Corning Rotary members and Interact students joined the Friends of the Chemung River Watershed for a cleanup on Saturday 7-25-26. It was a perfect day; although it started cool, the work warmed everyone up.
Corning Rotary Yumiko Akiba shared that several of the Corning Rotary Interact students came, as well as Rotarians (Pauline Emery, Mayu, Yumiko) to assist the FCR members. Among the riverside gatherings: “trash, 3 tires, tent, broken furniture, and many more items. Everybody worked really hard.”

Corning Rotary Club’s local initiatives address key areas of need and reflect our commitment to making a difference locally and globally:
- Environmental Sustainability: Tree-planting drives, community and school gardens, and cleanup events.
- Food Security: Supporting food banks and pantries with donations and hands-on volunteer work in our gardens.
- Youth Leadership & Education: Mentoring future leaders through Interact, Youth Exchange, Spelling Bees, Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, Oratory competitions, and Literacy programs in the schools.
- Health & Safety: Promoting wellness through initiatives like PolioPlus, Local Flood Relief and a free smoke detector program.
Thank you to all that attended. Special Thanks to Yumiko Akiba for arranging for our participation in these Community Service Events. We post our Community Service events at corningnyrotary.org; community members are welcome to attend with us at the events.
