Community Gardens Volunteers Needed!
We are off to a big start for our 2020 gardening season. There are a number of things that need to be done.
The Kate Danforth Community Garden:
- Is just about sold out
- Two beds need to be filled with soil
- Apple trees need to be pruned
- The decorative bed around the sign needs to be relocated
- The three elevated beds need to be repositioned and filled with soil
- The potato and strawberries bins need to be refurbished
- The compost bin needs to be turndown - it will be replaced with tumbler bins
There will be a stand built for gardeners to put produce out for anyone needing it to pick up - no charge. We have someone who is building this. Also, we maybe adding a deer fence and/or greenhouse this year - more to come on that.
Corning Food Pantry Garden
- 4 new beds have been built but need filling -- that brings us to 14 beds
- Shona Ort is managing the garden for the Food Pantry
- Adding a deer fence and greenhouse or high tunnel
- Most likely the garden will be dedicated to Jodi Kohli
Erwin Beartown Road Garden
- One bed still needs to be filled
- If we have individuals interested in a bed, we will install deer fencing around each bed and a water tank
- If no takers, we are going to let it go fallow this year and just fill the one bed and cover all 5
There will be Rotary work days on Saturday May 9th and Saturday May 16th starting at 9:00. Please contact Stu or Ernie to sign up. They will assign you to a garden. There will most likely be additional opportunities during the season for members to help. Social distancing will be practiced as well as tool sanitizing.
