Hello, Rotarian!
Thank you for your commitment and involvement in the Corning Rotary Club. For several years now we have witnessed a declining trend in regular Thursday lunchtime meeting attendance. This trend has reached a new low over this past year.
Although our membership stands at roughly 100 Rotarians, attendance has sunk to an average of 36.2 per meeting. Occasionally, a meeting will pull up to 50 attendees but this is still nowhere near the numbers we should see. Since one of the great reasons to be a Rotarian is the camaraderie and networking engendered by seeing each other on a regular basis, this drop in attendance over the past several years is alarming.
After much discussion, careful evaluation and, with the Four Way Test at the center of our considerations, your Board of Directors has decided to conduct a limited-time pilot of varying the meeting times on a consistent basis. We believe this trial will help Rotary meet the demands and needs of both our current and future members. We have a responsibility to ensure that every committed Rotarian has the opportunity to attend our regular meetings.
To that end, your Board has decided to run a six month pilot, from July 1 through December 31, 2019. A traditional lunch meeting at 12:10 PM will be held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. A breakfast meeting will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 AM on the 2nd Thursday, and a dinner meeting at 5:30 PM will be held on the 4th Thursday of each month. All meetings will be held at the Radisson. The occasional 5th Thursday of the month (August 29th and October 31st) will be used for a social outing or special membership recruitment event.
Once again, it is important to recognize this is an experiment. If you prefer one meeting time over the others please let us know, not only vocally but by your attendance. Attendance will be monitored and will be factored into any decisions made at the end of the trial period.
