Corning Rotary Honors Health Ministry of the Southern Tier

 

The Health Ministry of the Southern Tier has served the local area since 1997, providing uninsured and low-income residents of Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties with free limited primary medical and dental care. The 501(c)3 organization recently announced that it will close its doors as of the end of this year, citing a steep drop in client visits over the past few years.

 

At its peak in 2011, the Health Ministry provided a total of 3,434 medical patient visits, 65 eye exams, and 631 dental patient visits. All medical services are provided by volunteer doctors and nurses free of charge to patients.

 

Michael Slovak, executive director, and Ray Defendorf, an original founder and current member of the board of directors, accepted the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Health Ministries.
