Corning NY August 5, 2021: Corning Rotary is partnering with the City of Corning, and other community organizations to create a Cherry Blossom Trail in Denison Park. The Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail was selected as the club's 100th anniversary project.The project is fully paid for after donations from the club, the Corning Rotary Sustaining Fund, Corning Enterprises, The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Southern Finger Lakes, the Crystal City Parks Foundation, and the Corning Disk Golfers Association.
The structure of the agreement is that Rotary produces the trail design and gifts it to the City. The City will then manage and execute the remainder of the project. The Rotary Trail Design Review group members: Bill Boland, Jan Harvey, Andy Rochester, Dale Wexell, Stuart Sammis, Ernie Danforth, and John Brown.
As agreed with Rotary’s contract with the landscape architect for the project, the final design of the trail was delivered to Rotary on Monday, August 2nd. The PowerPoint presentation of the final design and related details can be accessed here.
The goal is planting by October 1. Next steps include implementation of the design, with planting by Rotarians this fall.
