Bill Boland receives Paul Harris Fellow

At our July 31 meeting Bill Boland was made a Paul Harris Fellow.

Bill is a native of Corning who attended public schools. He attended East High School and graduated in 1969. He attended West Point and received his commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army from Officer’s Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA in July of 1973. He received his BA in Psychology in 1975 from St Martin’s College. From 1976 to 2003 he worked in various jobs in Dallas, Phoenix, New York City and Scottsdale, Arizona. Bill retired in the Phoenix area. In June of 2013 he received the Service to the Frontier Award by the Space Frontier Foundation for his many years of service to advancing and advocating their mission of opening the space frontier to all as soon as possible. While living in Scottsdale and continuing after returning to Corning in 2008, his service included; Advocate, Advocate Coordinator, Board Member, Executive Director, Annual Conference Chair, Executive Director, Project Manager-Teachers in Space, and Policy Development and Communications team member. He moved back to Corning after retirement and joined the Corning Rotary Club in 2009. He has been a board member and Club Services Chair from July 2010 to June 2014. He brought his international service interest, House with Heart, to the attention of Rotary in 2009 when he arranged for his sister Colleen to make a presentation at a weekly luncheon. Corning Rotarians have since contributed generously, both individually and through the International Committee to provide needed fund for House with Heart in Kathmandu, Nepal. In addition Bill has chaired the holiday party for many years, served as club photographer, directory producer, Clubrunner Committee Chair, Youth Exchange Counselor and a speaker at Rotary on his vision for the City of Corning. He has served as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, on the Literacy Committee, organizer of the Youth Center Rehab Project, a participant in the Adult Spelling Bee, and Regional Spelling Bee Photographer The list continues, but now he serves as 4th Ward Councilman and Deputy Mayor of the city of Corning.
