Jim Webb brought Louis Ferratella, his parents, Laura and Paul, and coach Judy Cross. Louis was presented with a check for $600, his winnings from placing second in the District Oratorical Contest. Jim also gave Judy a lovely thank you bouquet for serving as his coach.
President Stu Sammis congratulated all those with May birthdays (List in column to the right on the Home Page). He also gave up dates on the medical conditions of Deacon Ray Defendorf, Gil Sweet, Rich Fastiggi and Linda Ugoretz.

Food Pantry toiletry bags (60) were filled at the April Social Event, Carey’s Brew House, in April.

Jim Webb announced that we will be sending two students to this year's RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). They are Christina Twiggs and McKenna Roth.
Nine bicycles and one scooter were donated for the Pittsford Rotary Club bike collection.
The club donated a $2,000 grant to the Science and Discovery Center for summer STEM kits and a $4,000 grant to the Community Gardens to rebuild beds at the Kate Danforth Community Garden and several others.
The Smoke Alarm Project that the club donated $5,000 to the Corning Fire District is underway. The fire departments have been distributing and installing smoke alarms to low-income homeowners.
Brendan Holmes announced a clean-up of the Memorial Park on Park Avenue to be held in conjunction with the American Legion and the Alternative School. Details to follow.
A CPR Clinic is being held Saturday, May 20th, sponsored by the club. We have room for one more attendee. Contact Jan or Andy.
The Unity in the Community rally is being held Saturday, May 13th 2-3pm
, in Centerway Square. The Rotary Clubs of both Elmira and Corning are to be honored.Cathy Buck announced the Camp Star Golf Tournament is being held Monday, July 24th at Indian Hills Golf Course. Teams and sponsors are invited!
Severn Elementary School reading program graduates are being honored at a special luncheon FRIDAY, May 19th, at the Radisson/Double Tree at noon. This special luncheon will take the place of the regularly scheduled meeting.

umiko Akiba organized the International Fashion Show at Corning Community College on May 4th. Over 100 people attended the event which raised $126 just by having a donation can. The funds will go to the club's international projects. There was a great deal of hard work put into this effort. Thank You, Yumiko!Highway spring cleanup is coming as well. Date TBD.

Dale Wexell reminded members that the online auction is coming up June 3-17. We still need over 20 items for the auction to be successful. Time for us to get busy soliciting donations!

Program: Susan Walker from Cornell Cooperative Extension Steuben County spoke on the dangers of the invasive spotted lantern fly to crops in our area. She pointed out what to do if we see them in our own yards and gardens this year.
