2026 Earth Day Cleanup with Friends of Chemung River Watershed
2026 Earth Day Cleanup with Friends of Chemung River Watershed Apr. 12, 2026
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

When: UPDATE - due to rain/high river, we're moving to Sunday 4/12/26     [was] Saturday April 4 I would recommend people bring a filled reusable water bottle to reduce plastic liter/waste. We will bring vests for identification, garbage bags, gloves for everyone, and some garbage picker sticks for use. If you have one - please bring it.

Where: Meet at Corning Wegmans, and park along the levee, closer to the Bridge Street Bridge. We will meet at the parking lot, and walk up behind Wegmans towards the Benjamin Patterson Bridge. We will start there, and walk to the Bridge Street Bridge along the river, and perhaps further depending on the energy of the group and the weather. The weather looks cool right now – 43 and cloudy. We typically do this even if it is drizzly, but we will cancel if it is thunder and lightning.

What: We will be cleaning up trash, bagging it (we will provide the bags). We're checking with City of Corning regarding the disposal of the trash we find. Tentatively, we can pile it up under the Benjamin Patterson Bridge, and they can pick it up in a truck and haul it off.

  • How: Please REGISTER by clicking on the MEMBERS [Rotarians] or GUESTS [non-Rotarians]  blue boxes on the left side of this page.
  • Wear long pants and hats to reduce bug/tick issues OR spray bare legs and boots with bug spray.
  • It is recommended that participants wear boots, as it may be muddy, and a hat for the sun.
  • Please bring workgloves (we also have work gloves – but they are big).
  • We will give a short safety talk about picking up trash, and will need everyone’s waivers completed prior to beginning; fill it out at the event.
  • Its a good idea to wear clothes you don’t care about, because it is a dirt job after all! 😊
  • .➡️ BE SURE to use this handy online registration tool from Chemung River Watershed and sign the waiver forr:  here
    • If you forget, we'll have a paper form you can use.

Why: We are cleaning up the riverside on the northside of the River in Corning because that area sees a lot of people walking, and we get a lot of litter under the Bridges. We are looking to reduce this pollution, as it ultimately gets into our water systems, and cleaning up the Chemung River Watershed keeps us healthy and our community beautiful!

If you have any questions, let us know.

2026-04-22 12:00:00Z Apr. 22, 2026 Sakura Event - Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail Apr. 22, 2026 12:00 p.m. Corning Denison Park

In 2021, the Corning Rotary Club teamed up with the City of Corning and Corning Enterprises to create the “Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail” in Denison Park, as Rotary’s signature project in celebration of its 100th anniversary.

Last year, we began to celebrate “Sakura”, the Japanese annual celebration when the cherry trees blossom. They “drop everything” and head for the trees with a picnic. It has a wonderful, spontaneous quality. Last year in Corning, we had about 100 people join for a noon-hour event. No speeches, no program … just the trees … and a community gathering to share in a springtime ritual of renewal.

This year, the trees have blossomed, “Sakura”, and we will once again gather to celebrate on Wednesday, April 22nd, at noon. Come join in to continue this simple tradition.

Meet at the trailhead located at Denison Park on East Market Street Extension, east of Conhocton Street. For reference, when traveling east on Denison Parkway, turn left onto Conhocton at Dunkin Donuts. If coming from East Corning/Gibson on 352, turn right onto Conhocton (first traffic light) at the former Rite-Aid pharmacy. Take the next right onto East Market Street Extension. The trailhead is a few hundred yards on the right-hand side. You can’t miss the big sign, “Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail.” Parking is along the street and in the City’s small lots on the left-hand side.

2026 NASCAR Rotary Volunteers for Camp Star May 08, 2026 10:00 a.m. -
May 10, 2026 2:00 p.m.
A big THANK YOU to all that signed up. Registrations area now closed.

It is with great pleasure I announce that Watkins Glen International is once again soliciting our help in the NASCAR volunteer booths. Many members of our clubs have done this in the past but there are many who have not. I am looking to you for help getting volunteers signed up to assist with this need.

When: Friday, May 8; Saturday, May 9; and Sunday, May 10

What we will do: volunteers will work at the information booths for a their shifts. The track provides us with the materials we need to give educated guesses for the questions we will be asked by the NASCAR fans. It is an easy job and gives us time to enjoy each others company, help excited fans get where they are going and help answer any questions they may have. You do not have to know anything about road racing, just general knowledge is often all you need.

How this helps:
  • all total, we should be able to earn over a $2100 donation for 3 days of service.
  • also, each volunteer is given a general admission ticket to give them entry to the track on other days when they are not volunteering.
  • once a Rotarian is signed up, I will make arrangements to get the general admission ticket to them. Great opportunity for all those "wanna be" race fans, lol.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....... the race is coming soon and I have 35+ positions to fill. Some Rotarians may want to sign up for more than one shift and/or day. That is a perfectly acceptable.

Camp Star appreciates all the time and energy to keep the camp going strong.

TO REGISTER [from Corning Rotary Andy]:
  • click the blue box at left and choose the time slot[s] you want
  • click the signup box at the right of that day/time
    • member type: not a member [choose that choice]
    • info: enter first, last, email, phone
  • click SAVE
That's it! Information and confirmations will go to the email you supplied!!  You'll get a confirmation from the system when you register. You'll also get another communication just before the event - with any additional informaiton from Bridgette.

[from Bridgette:] ‼️ Please be sure to include a phone number so I can reach out to you with any changes.

If a time slot is split and you would like to fill the whole day, please do so. Work as often and as long as you like.

Thank you for your participation!!

Prior to joining The Rockwell, Coe served as Director of the Palmer Museum of Art and Associate Clinical Professor in Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture. She provided transformative leadership in redefining the museum's mission, strategic priorities, and role within the University while helping lead the realization of the Palmer's new 73,000-square-foot home in the Arboretum at Penn State, designed by Allied Works. The new museum opened to the public on June 1, 2024, attracting unprecedented attendance and earning recognition from USA Today as one of the nation's best new art museums.

Committed to empowering staff and advancing institutional excellence, Coe led the development of several groundbreaking exhibitions, including MADE in PA (2024), the inaugural exhibition in the new museum, which she co-curated; Plastic Entanglements: Ecology, Aesthetics, Materials (2018); From the Rooftops: John Sloan and the Art of the New Urban Space (2019); and Global Asias: Contemporary Asian and Asian American Art from the Collections of Jordan Schnitzer and His Family Foundation (2022). Accompanied by major scholarly publications, these exhibitions explored local, national, and global perspectives while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue. During her tenure, the Palmer's permanent collection grew by 40 percent through strategic acquisitions and landmark gifts, including the John Driscoll Collection of American Drawings and the bequest of more than 200 works from the museum's namesake, Barbara Palmer. She also championed acquisitions by historically underrepresented artists and advanced initiatives that strengthened access, equity, inclusion, and belonging throughout the museum's exhibitions, collections, and organizational culture.

Coe previously served as Executive Director of The Hyde Collection, an accredited art museum and historic house in Glens Falls, New York. Earlier, as the museum's Chief Curator for fifteen years, she organized more than forty-five exhibitions, authored numerous scholarlypublications, contributed to national art journals, and secured a transformative gift of postwar modern art that led to the creation of a dedicated modern and contemporary art gallery.

Throughout her career, Coe has been recognized for her leadership, scholarship, and contributions to the museum field. She has received honors from organizations including the Attingham Trust and the Association of Art Museum Curators and, in 2017, was awarded a Congressional Recognition for her dedication to advancing the arts in New York's 21st Congressional District.

Coe holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Arts from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Coe completed advanced doctoral studies in the history of art and architecture at Boston University and has held professional positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the University Art Museum at the University at Albany.
