We've Got a Lunch for You!
Monday evening, Jan 30, the Board of Directors unanimously approved the proposed contract between the club and the Double Tree [formerly Radisson] for our monthly lunches.

We will meet on the first Thursday of the month at the Double Tree with the exception of February.  Because we are having the Groundhog Day Pancake Supper this Thursday, we will meet at the Double Tree on Feb. 9th.

Dale and Marisa, in the best tradition of Rotary, worked out a contract that is fair to all concerned.  The full contract details have been emailed to you already.

Here is a subset of the operational details:
  • Lunch ordering will remain online - allowing signup for lunch or cancelling your reservation
    • Access to the online reservation (required) will be closed at noon on the Monday before the meeting. If you make a reservation and need to cancel it you can do it up to noon on Monday.
    • If you do not show up for the meeting, you are still be responsible for payment and the meal payment cannot be applied at a later meeting.
    • Rotary will collect the lunch price $23 cash or $24 for credit/debit card payment inclusive (including tax and gratuity)

  • Lunch to start at 12:00PM
    • Buffet lunch with chef’s choice of soup, salad, hot or cold entrée
    • Beverage selection inside room on side table
    • Round tables set with coffee and water

⚙️ Thursday Rotary Social Event Was Fun 😀
Thursday saw a social gathering of Rotarians and guests at Carey’s Brew House on Bridge Street in Corning.  Held in Carey’s Game Room, chit chat flowed as people circulated from group to group.  A buffet munchie bar of stuffed potato skins, onion petals, veggie platter and salsa and chips was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Guests included Sue Boland, Gretta Tomb, Kendra Mourhess, Maria Goldwyn, Mark Warner and Steve Brucie. Seldom seen at the noon lunch meetings, Rotarians Nora Smith, Barry Nicholson, Yumiko Akiba and David Kartzman put in appearances.  It was great to see their smiling faces!

The club’s new meeting schedule includes an evening social event on a monthly basis.  The convivial atmosphere of the social gave members a chance to catch up with each other and build fellowship outside the formal setting of luncheon club meetings.  There was even some Rotary business and committee work being discussed.  Several members commented as the evening ended how much they appreciated these types of functions.  If you  have not attended one yet, mark your calendars for the next one!

Rotary Leadership Institute 3-4-23  8am-4pm
Good Morning Rotarians!
If you want an opportunity to participate in RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) in person this year, here is your chance! On March 4th in Johnson City, we will be having a live RLI event. It will go from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. This is one of the best ways to learn more about Rotary and to network with people outside of our district to build friendships and get new ideas. I can tell you that I learned more about Rotary in one day than I had learned in many years!

Just because it has Leadership in the name does not mean that you have to be in a leadership role. You may never want to do that, but don’t let that stop you from this fabulous opportunity. The price for taking this course is $80.00, and very often, your club will cover that cost. You may want to ask.
So, please take a moment to consider whether you want to expand your Rotary knowledge and meet a lot of cool people – especially those of you in the Southern Tier – it’s an easy drive down Interstate 86.

The link for registration is: https://rlinea.org/ and scroll down to the Johnson City Event. It’s very easy to register.

Hope to see many of you there!
Janet Tenreiro, IPDG District 7120
Regional Vice Chair, RLINEA

Rotary Ukraine Response - Rotary Foundation
Rotary members have already shown amazing generosity to the people of Ukraine. Because we continue to receive an outpouring of requests to provide humanitarian aid, The Rotary Foundation has created a new temporary fund. The Ukraine Response Fund is a response to the ongoing, urgent need and the wish of Rotary members to keep making a difference for people affected by the war.

Together, we can offer our support to these communities. Here is how you can help.
  1. Donate to the Ukraine Response Fund
  1. Fundraise among your colleagues, friends, and family using Raise for Rotary
  1. Learn how Rotary members are helping the people of Ukraine

Share that you have provided aid to the people of Ukraine and help us raise awareness.

After you have made a contribution, post this graphic on social media with the tag #RotaryResponds.

Thank you for supporting this new fund and helping communities in Ukraine recover.

Sincerely,

Ian H.S. Riseley
2022-23 Trustee Chair
