![]() The Organizers of the Duane Eddy Circle
Apr. 03, 2025
Very Brief Intro : Barbara Blumer
PowerPoint: Linda Reimer
Q&A: Frank Acomb
Very Brief Wrap-up/Thank you: Dick Puccio
Our work on Duane Eddy is all volunteer. For me, it’s an extension of my research and stories about the people of Corning. For Linda, she’s the local history librarian, hosts our group at the library, and is a guitar player/Duane fan. For Frank, he interviewed and knew Duane personally and has advocated for community support of him for many years. And Dick, retired owner of Marich Music, is a huge fan and enthusiastic educator of Duane’s importance to music history.
Duane was very proud to be born in Corning and our group’s goal is to build awareness that he was Born in Corning and that we should be proud too.
And have fun doing it. Our website is CorningTwang.com.

Apr. 12, 2025 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
When: Saturday April 12 I would recommend people bring a filled reusable water bottle to reduce plastic liter/waste. We will bring vests for identification, garbage bags, gloves for everyone, and some garbage picker sticks for use. If you have one - please bring it. Where: Meet at Corning Wegmans, and park along the levee, closer to the Bridge Street Bridge. We will meet at the parking lot, and walk up behind Wegmans towards the Benjamin Patterson Bridge. We will start there, and walk to the Bridge Street Bridge along the river, and perhaps further depending on the energy of the group and the weather. The weather looks cool right now – 43 and cloudy. We typically do this even if it is drizzly, but we will cancel if it is thunder and lightning. What: We will be cleaning up trash, bagging it (we will provide the bags). We're checking with City of Corning regarding the disposal of the trash we find. Tentatively, we can pile it up under the Benjamin Patterson Bridge, and they can pick it up in a truck and haul it off.
Why: We are cleaning up the riverside on the northside of the River in Corning because that area sees a lot of people walking, and we get a lot of litter under the Bridges. We are looking to reduce this pollution, as it ultimately gets into our water systems, and cleaning up the Chemung River Watershed keeps us healthy and our community beautiful! If you have any questions, let us know.

Jun. 06, 2025 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
We need to complete sign-ups for this by noon Monday, May 19th. This is a great opportunity to work with United Way, through their Day of Action, to assist Corning Meals on Wheels. Also, a chance to see how their operation assists people -- you may find yourself becoming a volunteer again in the future! There's a special place in my heart for Meals on Wheels - my Mom, Penny Rochester, and Helen Lanning founded Meals on Wheels. Here's the detail:
Please consider this service opportunity! Thank you. Andy |
