Thank you to Dale Wexell for facilitating a fun game of Imaginiff. It was a fun game that challenged us all to imagine what other Rotarias are most like. It was a great way to get to know each other.
The Rotary Club of Corning hosted its inaugural “Holiday Evening with Rotary” on Saturday, December 10, 2022, raising $8,300 to benefit the United Nation’s Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.
The event featured the world premiere of “The Holiday Dating Game,” an original stage play written by Bill Boland and directed by Wendy Griffin. The script is based on the iconic 1960s “The Dating Game” TV show, with a holiday twist. Amateur actors from the Corning-Painted Post High School brought the production to life, and volunteers from Corning-Painted Post High School Learning Center served as stagehands, ushers and greeters. The Rotary Brass Band provided musical accompaniment.
The festive evening held at 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning began with a cocktail hour featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres created by Louise Richardson, followed by a professional magic show. A highlight of the evening was a powerful speech delivered by Polina, the 2022-23 Rotary exchange student from the Ukraine. Polina is currently attending Corning-Painted Post High School while dealing with the trauma of family separation due to the ongoing War in Ukraine.
The Rotary Club of Corning wishes to thank the Holiday Evening with Rotary’s generous corporate sponsors, which included Presenting Sponsor Advanced Optics Group of Corning Incorporated and Direct to Cause Sponsor Corning Natural Gas. Twenty-one additional local businesses underwrote the event through sponsorship of “live commercials” and advertisements in the event program.
Proceeds from the Holiday Evening with Rotary will benefit the United Nation’s Ukraine Humanitarian Fund, operated by the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The fund is a rapid and flexible response mechanism to assist the most vulnerable communities and people with urgently needed support. Money raised from the event’s sponsors and attendees will be used to help alleviate suffering for the people of Ukraine, especially during the long, cold winter ahead.
