Rotary meeting January 4, 2024

The club met for lunch at the Corning Radisson soon to be Doubletree Hotel.  President Dale called the meeting to order at 12: 27 pm with the ringing of the Rotary bell after a delicious roast beef lunch.  This was followed by the singing of My Country ‘Tis of Thee and recitation of the pledge of allegiance.  Bill Boland then delivered a sermon disguised as an invocation.

Reading to the Severn Students

What could be more fun than reading to 2 kindergarten classes at Severn? Also having another program with the whole second grade! The students loved the stories - which were accompanied by antics provided by stuffed animals and more, in the Severn multipurpose room. After the stories, books were handed out to the students.

Thank you to Jordyn and Pauline Emery and all the others from the schools and Corning Rotary Literacy Committee that help with this wonderful program of Rotary helping with community literacy.

MLK Day of Service at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier
As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a DAY OF SERVICE, let's come together as a community to make a positive impact. We have an opportunity for our club to volunteer at the Southern Tier Food Bank on January 15, 2024, from 10:30 AM to noon. I'm hoping [it is a holiday] that we can have 8-10 Rotarians for our time block!

Event Details:

  • Date: January 15, 2024
  • Time: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Location: Southern Tier Food Bank Activity: Repacking Food for those in need
  • Signup: click here for our custom signup
  • Let Andy Know: After you complete the signup, please email me to let me know you're signed up.

This event is not just an opportunity to serve our community; it's a chance to embody Dr. King's spirit of compassion and unity. By dedicating our time to repack food at the Southern Tier Food Bank, we contribute to the fight against hunger and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those less fortunate. This is Corning Rotary in Action!
