Club Meeting 07-07-2022
The club met for lunch at noon at First Presbyterian Church.  President Stu called the meeting to order at 12:10 pm with the ringing of the Rotary bell.  This was followed by the singing of My Country ‘Tis of Thee and recitation of the pledge of allegiance.  Jon Carpenter gave the invocation and with help from fellow Rotarians, Stu recited the Four-Way Test.

Guests: Bill Boland introduced Greta Tomb, a former member of this club.  She is retiring from VA and is planning to set up a new dental practice on First and Columbia.

Club Service:
  • Bill Boland served as photographer [photos] and Ernie Danforth was the Cogs editor.:
  • Birthdays; Paula Smith, George Welch Sr., Jeff Ugoretz, and Pauline Emery
  • Deacon Ray talked about a $3000.00 grant to Suroti in Uganda to establish a community garden that was approved by the International Committee and the Board of Directors.
  • President Stu:
    • noted that the Board of Directors passed bylaw updates including a required youth protection policy that will be necessary when the two exchange students arrive in the fall.
    • we need a community service and a club service chair for the upcoming year.  If anyone is interested/willing let Stu or any member of the BoD know.
    • the Board and committee chairs will hold a retreat on Saturday Aug 20th.
    • noted that we are looking for a new club project.  We will be soliciting ideas for the next month.  If you have ideas forward them to Stu.
    • we are about a month away from exchange students arriving. Time and location TBA.
    • we are looking for feedback on Thursday meetings.  First Presbyterian Church is working currently, but we are getting more and more people showing up in person so actually having some kind of lunch meeting is becoming more and more possible.
  • Wendy Winnett noted that she is still looking for door prizes and support money for Camp Star.  Cathy Buck expressed an interest in serving on the Camp Star board as one of our representatives.
  • Ted Goldwyn provided an update on the process of forming an Interact Club at the high school learning center.  They have drafts of their constitution and bylaws and have officers. Dave Quackenbush is the advisor and we hope they will be more involved this year.
  • Congratulations were offered to Ted on the recent nuptials of his son Noah.  This led Bill Boland to note that his son Jack is home from England and brought his girlfriend along.  While at dinner up at Snug Harbor, he proposed, and she accepted.  So, it is possible that both Ted and Bill will be fined.
Program:  Stu introduced our District Governor, Ralph Brant.  Please see the Zoom recording for this important part of  the meeting!
