MLK Day of Service at the Food Bank
January 15, 2024 was a busy day at the Food Bank in Elmira. There were over 200 volunteers there to learn more about Dr. King Jr. as well as provide service to the Food Bank. Corning Rotary was there with two teams: one for the morning and another for the afternoon shift.

Our morning team of 10, and the other morning volunteers had the APPLE ASSIGNMENT. Basically we took buckets of apples from large floor containers, checked them -- then packed in bags. Then those bags went into crates, which went off on the conveyor belt to another area.

Everyone pitched in -- ferrying the apples to the weighing/bagging stations -- ensuring that the bags had the proper contents weight! And then .... we'd gone through all the apples; the task went quickly. There was great camaraderie by the volunteers, getting apples to other teams and tossing apples to and fro to "balance out the scales".

Thank you to the Food Bank for having us there and to all the volunteers! In the afternoon, another Corning Rotary group,  Elise Johnson-Schmidt and her team packed more food for the food bank! Service Above Self!
