Stories
Camp Star - You Can Help!
Camp STAR [video here] is a week-long camp for children, ages 6 through 12, with a physical or developmental disability that might keep them from enjoying a typical camping experience. Nestled into the peaceful, rural setting that is at The Y at Watson, it is our goal to provide a safe and supervised way for your child to enjoy camping and swimming. We look forward to "going camping" with your child and as you peruse this web site perhaps you might think of ways you help us with the Camp STAR program.

The camp is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs from the Southern Tier of New York State including the Bath, Canisteo, Corning, Chemung Sunrise, Elmira, Elmira Heights, Horseheads, Prattsburgh and Watkins-Montour Rotary Clubs. Here's a presentation about how our local Rotary Clubs participate in funding and how you can help: video.

Our club needs to provide support to Camp Star immediately. We have been listing the opportunity for the golf tournament [major fundraiser], but need people to register ASAP.  Another way to donate is to donate items that they can use as prizes. Contact Marianne to arrange.

Finally, you can donate money directly to the Camp - click here.

It's important that we step up for this. The club assessments can't cover the cost of the camp - so Camp Star needs to have these fund raising events be successful, so that the camp can support these wonderful kids.

Andy

PS But Wait!! There's another way you can help. Please sign up to spend a couple of hours at the Camp for a party we provide. Here's the signup.
Changeover picnic 6-29-2023

Club Service:

  • Invocation: Jeff Ugoretz
  • COGS: Jan Harvey
  • Photography: Jim Webb [more photos]
The Annual Change-Over Picnic was planned to be held at McKinney Park in Corning.  Mother Nature had other plans sending smoke from the Canadian wildfires to add atmosphere to the event.  A change in venue to the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church was welcome relief for the picnickers.  Thank you, First Presbyterian Church and Pastor Jeff Ugoretz for providing your facilities on such a short notice!

Thirty-five Rotarians and their guests enjoyed an excellent repast provided by Johnny Spaulding and Katy from Corning Catering. And smoke was not one of the flavorings!

President Stu Sammis crowed about the wonderful activities accomplished by individuals and members of this club.  The full list is shown below.  An experience of a lifetime was how Stu described his year.  A standing ovation from the audience saluted St as he took his last bow by passing a president's pin over to Dale Wexell.

As the new president, Dale gave his inaugural speech outlining the direction the club will be taking this coming year.  It promises to be a year of continuing change and activities always keeping the Four Way Test in mind.  Welcome, President Dale!
