Apr. 12, 2026 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
When: UPDATE - due to rain/high river, we're moving to Sunday 4/12/26 Where: Meet at Corning Wegmans, and park along the levee, closer to the Bridge Street Bridge. We will meet at the parking lot, and walk up behind Wegmans towards the Benjamin Patterson Bridge. We will start there, and walk to the Bridge Street Bridge along the river, and perhaps further depending on the energy of the group and the weather. The weather looks cool right now – 43 and cloudy. We typically do this even if it is drizzly, but we will cancel if it is thunder and lightning. What: We will be cleaning up trash, bagging it (we will provide the bags). We're checking with City of Corning regarding the disposal of the trash we find. Tentatively, we can pile it up under the Benjamin Patterson Bridge, and they can pick it up in a truck and haul it off.
Why: We are cleaning up the riverside on the northside of the River in Corning because that area sees a lot of people walking, and we get a lot of litter under the Bridges. We are looking to reduce this pollution, as it ultimately gets into our water systems, and cleaning up the Chemung River Watershed keeps us healthy and our community beautiful! If you have any questions, let us know.

In 2021, the Corning Rotary Club teamed up with the City of Corning and Corning Enterprises to create the “Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail” in Denison Park, as Rotary’s signature project in celebration of its 100th anniversary. Last year, we began to celebrate “Sakura”, the Japanese annual celebration when the cherry trees blossom. They “drop everything” and head for the trees with a picnic. It has a wonderful, spontaneous quality. Last year in Corning, we had about 100 people join for a noon-hour event. No speeches, no program … just the trees … and a community gathering to share in a springtime ritual of renewal.
This year, the trees have blossomed, “Sakura”, and we will once again gather to celebrate on Wednesday, April 22nd, at noon. Come join in to continue this simple tradition. Meet at the trailhead located at Denison Park on East Market Street Extension, east of Conhocton Street. For reference, when traveling east on Denison Parkway, turn left onto Conhocton at Dunkin Donuts. If coming from East Corning/Gibson on 352, turn right onto Conhocton (first traffic light) at the former Rite-Aid pharmacy. Take the next right onto East Market Street Extension. The trailhead is a few hundred yards on the right-hand side. You can’t miss the big sign, “Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail.” Parking is along the street and in the City’s small lots on the left-hand side. Bill Boland |

A big THANK YOU to all that signed up. Registrations area now closed.
It is with great pleasure I announce that Watkins Glen International is once again soliciting our help in the NASCAR volunteer booths. Many members of our clubs have done this in the past but there are many who have not. I am looking to you for help getting volunteers signed up to assist with this need.
When: Friday, May 8; Saturday, May 9; and Sunday, May 10
What we will do: volunteers will work at the information booths for a their shifts. The track provides us with the materials we need to give educated guesses for the questions we will be asked by the NASCAR fans. It is an easy job and gives us time to enjoy each others company, help excited fans get where they are going and help answer any questions they may have. You do not have to know anything about road racing, just general knowledge is often all you need.
How this helps:
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....... the race is coming soon and I have 35+ positions to fill. Some Rotarians may want to sign up for more than one shift and/or day. That is a perfectly acceptable. Camp Star appreciates all the time and energy to keep the camp going strong. TO REGISTER [from Corning Rotary Andy]:
That's it! Information and confirmations will go to the email you supplied!! You'll get a confirmation from the system when you register. You'll also get another communication just before the event - with any additional informaiton from Bridgette.
[from Bridgette:] ‼️ Please be sure to include a phone number so I can reach out to you with any changes. Thank you for your participation!! Bridgette 607-227-6637 goodb0322@netscape.net |
